Special Considerations for Patients Undergoing Laser Treatment for Disciform Macula Degeneration
- Treatment will not bring back perfect vision.
- If successful treatment will prevent further deterioration of visual acuity.
- In a few cases there is a moderate improvement of vision.
- In special cases, (sub-foveal), the treatment may cause further impairment of sharpness of vision in order to attempt to save long term width of central vision.
- Treatment may fail if a problem such as a bleed occurrs or in cases of incomplete ablation.
- Repeated assessments with fluorescein angiography will be needed following treatment.
- Low vision aids (for magnification) are often helpful after treatment.
